Love is in the air – whether celebrating with your soulmate, for Gal-entine’s Day, or with the family. Valentine’s Day can actually be celebrated all month. Whether you’re interested in small-town charm or bigger city moments, South Lyon and nearing communities of Novi and Milford offer brilliantly different Valentine’s experiences.
More and more, Valentine’s Day is to enjoy with anyone you care about, not just romance (although we love that, too!) With that, the following is your guide to a lovely local Valentine’s Day (month)!
SOUTH LYON & MILFORD:
Let’s start with gifts. Purchase Valentine’s Sweets at one of South Lyon’s fabulous, locally-owned bakeries. Start the morning by bringing home gourmet donuts at South Lyon Village Bakery. Go extra decadent and order a chocolate-covered strawberry cake from Sister Sweets perfect for sharing!
For unique candies, Spun Sugar is a must-visit, with the most creative cotton candy you will ever see. Gal-pals might love the cotton candy glitter bombs, and kids will want the unicorn cotton candy!
For the ultimate in chocolate, a ride to nearby Milford to Sweet Retreats Chocolate Shoppe is worth the visit. This family-owned chocolatier makes huge bons bons in high-quality selections of flavors like “chocolate champagne” and cherry cordials.
Now, onto the action.
It’s three loves in one! Love for community, love of laughter and love of food! A Night of Love and Laughs with Dinner Feb. 13 at River Bank Golf Course to benefit Active Faith Food Benefit. After all, a couple that laughs together, stays together!
If you’re looking for traditional romance with your significant other this Valentine’s Day, the South Lyon Hotel will suit your needs perfectly. The hotel itself has been a landmark within the South Lyon community for over 150 years. A gorgeous building itself, the dining room offers eclectic and diverse menu offerings—everything from Prime Sirloin & Shrimp to New Orleans Pasta, salads and burgers.
For outdoorsy types, The Huron Valley Rail Trail spans 12 miles and connects over 25 miles of scenic trails throughout other parks and rec areas. Fresh air, plenty of sights and sounds from nature, and time spent hand-in-hand are wonderful for an early morning or evening stroll. Have a hot chocolate in hand from coffee shops nearby to stay warm.
Seeking a light-hearted night?
Craft beer for couples (or pals!) at local fantastic breweries like Third Monk Brewing Company and Witch’s Hat Brewery. Both serve outrageously good beer, and you can even grab a bite to eat while you’re there at Witch’s Hat (bonus points if you score tickets to the Valentine’s Day Beer Dinner on 2/14 at 6pm).
Speaking of food, if you’re a foodie couple, try the classic Italian brilliance that is Mancini’s Pizza. Their heart-shaped pizza is fun and delicious—and pair it with a great bottle of red from Twisted Cork Winery.
Fountain Walk in Novi provides a great opportunity for a traditional dinner and a movie evening. Emagine Novi offers those cushy extra-large seats. Then visit Bar Louie, Black Rock Bar & Grill, Buddy’s Pizza or Beerhead Bar & Eatery—all a short walk from the theater.
Novi’s Visions Spa Salon can provide the quintessential couples massage or spa experience. Also, there’s no rules against treating yourself on Valentine’s Day, so booking a day or afternoon at the spa by yourself is another loving gesture and option.
Toasted Oak Grill & Market offers an incredible meal from start to finish, with exceptional service. Reservations will be necessary for Valentine’s Day, and don’t skip dessert. If you’re planning on staying in and cooking, their market offers an incredible array of crusty breads, meats, cheeses and wine. They also have prepared foods you can pick up to go, so if you’re not the cooking type, they’ve got your evening covered there too.
Last, for something truly unique and memorable – iFly Detroit is located in Novi, and is definitely for those who crave an exciting, non-traditional Valentine’s Day. A skydiving center that utilizes vertical wind tunnels, it’s a family-friendly activity, or just go for a one-on-one thrilling adventure (probably before dinner).
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
